David Bowie wasn’t just a legendary musician — he was one of the most daring, creative professionals of his generation, constantly reinventing his own brand with fresh energy. So it just plain felt right when our friends at Alkemy X kicked off this year’s Philadelphia ADDY Awards with a dynamic Bowie tribute video, in which a bunch of local ad pros donned full makeup and costumes to perform the roles of Bowie’s many personas, from Ziggy Stardust to Aladdin Sane.

As for our own Hanlon Creative team, well, rather than zig we zagged, breaking out from the lip-sync pack with a smooth-dancing, wardrobe-changing Puppet Who Fell to Earth.

That’s how the award ceremony, held March 3 at Union Trust, began. And as the evening unfolded, the awesome didn’t stop: Hanlon Creative took home one of the ADDYs’ top honors, marking what Bowie would presumably call a “Golden Year.”

Every year, the ADDYs celebrate the creative industry’s brightest minds, wildest imaginations, and boldest executions. The Philly Ad Club accepts over 60,000 entries annually from advertising, marketing, film/broadcast production, and design firms. But only the top work is honored by the Ad Club’s distinguished panel of judges.

Hanlon Creative took home the Gold this year for our 30-second TV spot for Good Neighbor Pharmacy (also honored last month at the 87th Art Directors Club Awards). We partnered with Monogram to launch the new positioning line “Locally Owned. Locally Operated. Locally Loved.” and to raise awareness of its more than 3,000 independently owned pharmacies nationwide in a fun, expressive, and engaging way.

We’d like to thank the Philly Ad Club for hosting another stellar event; Alkemy-X for inviting us to rock out in a legendary creative rebel’s honor; and, once again, our friends at Good Neighbor Pharmacy, who motivate us to new creative heights each and every year.
